This project is executed on behalf of Fitzwilliam museum’s request to be screened in Made in Ancient Egypt exhibition.
Description
In ancient Egypt, the gods and the dead lived in stone. Temples, tombs, and monuments weren’t just built, they were carved with care to last for eternity. The carving process was meticulous. First, rough stone was shaped. Then a smoothing layer of gypsum plaster might be added. Outline draftsmen would sketch the design in red, then refine it in black. Only then did the carvers begin their work. Mohsen Abou Shousha; a stone mason whose techniques, tools and materials simulates the ones used in ancient Egypt.
